You want to do something against industrial factory farming? Then you've come to the right place! At our own dinner table, all we see is a piece of meat - there is no sign of the animal's suffering. But as soon as we take a closer look and put ourselves in the position of the animals in dark stables and cages, we suddenly realize that we wouldn't wish the things that innocent animals have to go through on even our worst enemy.
It is therefore time to do something about this injustice. Also because the Factory Farming significantly to the largest Environmental problems of our time their products endanger our health and their system also provides cruel conditions for employees.
In this article, I would like to give you the most important tips on animal ethics, ecological, health and social reasons for no longer participating in industrial factory farming in your everyday life. Let's go!
Reasons: Why We Must Urgently Stop Factory Farming
There are many reasons why many people in our society despise factory farming, but still support it. Around 74 billion "farm animals" are killed every year.1 But apart from this mass destruction (because that is exactly what it is), the animals suffer for many years until they die.
For example, if Calves systematically separated from their parentscows are dehorned, restrained and artificially impregnated for milk production, pigs have their curly tails removed and chickens have their beaks shortened. (see also Tools in factory farming)
Nobody can want these acts. But all this happens behind closed doorswhich is why they continue to find support. And there we have one of the main reasons why we need to shed light on the darkness.
Other reasons are the consequences of "modern animal husbandry" for our planet. For example, it is responsible for 51 percent of global Greenhouse gas emissions responsible and a key driver of the Climate change.2 Furthermore, around 50 percent of antibiotics in Germany are used for "farm animals" so that they survive the horrors of the facilities for as long as possible.
It is also not surprising that regular meat consumption has a negative impact on our health. Heart disease risk tripled compared to a purely plant-based diet.3 From the inhumane working conditions of the temporary workers, who are particularly Tönnies scandal got special attention, not to mention.
Important: That's not the point here, Farmers to take their job. Rather, I want to encourage farmers to switch to plant-based alternatives in order to stop the exploitation of animals for our habits.
11 Tips: How You Can Take Action Against Factory Farming
There really are hundreds of other motives for doing something about factory farming - and only a few for leaving everything as it is. Habit, tradition, taste and convenience are at least not morally justifiable reasons.
To inform and question yourselfThe first step is therefore to find out to what extent you are actually contributing to cows, pigs, chickens, foxes and countless other animals being locked up in cramped cages - and the next step is to support regional organic farms and other small producers of animal products.
However, as the animals continue to be kept there systematically (only on a small scale and with a little more space), the exploited and ultimately killed Once they become uneconomical, you can take a few more steps.
As promised, I would now like to 10 things you can do personally in your everyday lifeto stop factory farming.
1. Stop Eating Meat
Around 98 percent of the animal meat consumed in Germany today comes from factory farming.4 So let's start with the most obvious: meat consumption.
The meat industry only exists, because we consumers buy their products. Animals are bred, fattened and killed in a resource-intensive and often torturous way. If you want to stop factory farming, you should therefore stop buying and eating meat from animals.
Ultimately, demand determines supply. Of course, this also applies to the many meat substitutes now available in supermarkets, which make it easier to switch to a meat-free diet. Meat-free vegetarian or vegan diet much easier. (Cookbook tip: Vegan diet for beginners* with basic knowledge and simple recipes)
I personally have deliberately decided against simply Eat less meatas it remains an injustice regardless of the amount of meat. Furthermore, as meat in Germany comes almost exclusively from factory farming, it is almost impossible to know the origin of the meat with absolute certainty at every meal in a restaurant.
Here are further articlesthat will help you make the switch:
2. Stop Eating Chicken Eggs
Animals do not die for eggs? Think again! Buying eggs (whether organic or not) promotes the system and ensures that Male chicks shredded immediately after birth or gassed and hens that no longer lay eggs are killed.
And for what? For one of the most cholesterol-rich foods in the world to be able to eat.
Try to break this habit instead. Fortunately, eggs are quite easy to replace! For example, use the sulfur salt Kala Namak to imitate the taste - or tomato paste, linseed, soy flour and apple sauce as an alternative binding agent. There are now even vegan scrambled egg substitute*which is made from chickpea flour.
In the article about Vegan egg alternatives you can find out everything you need to know about it!
3. Choose Plant-Based Milk
Do you want to end factory farming? Then you should also avoid milk from animals. On Cow's milk for example!
A dairy cow is artificially impregnated with bull semen so that she will soon give milk. Nine months later, she gives birth to a calf, which is torn from her after a few hours. If it is a female, it will suffer the same fate as its mother. If it is a male, it is turned into veal. The mother is killed as soon as she stops giving milk and worthless for the industry is.
The Dairy industry is therefore even more brutal than the meat industryeven if they naturally go hand in hand.
It is better to avoid the consumption of classic animal milk altogether. It really is so incredibly easy to replace! The supermarket is full of plant-based alternatives such as oat milk, almond milk, rice milk or soy milk. I'm sure you'll like at least one of them!
To replace all dairy products in an animal-friendly and equivalent way, you will find Here is a great overview of vegan alternatives*.
Tip: All my reasons for being Vegans no longer drink milkI present them to you in detail in the linked blog article.
4. Stop Eating Fish and Seafood
The Overfishing of the seas is one of the biggest environmental problems of our time. Contrary to popular belief, it is exacerbated by intensive fish farming in aquacultures.
So if you want to put an end to factory farming, you should also stop your personal consumption of seafood. Then you are no longer contributing to Destruction of the marine ecosystem with. What's more, not a single fish has to be bred and suffer for you in factory farming.
Fish is particularly popular for its Omega-3 fatty acids. But he only has them in him because he has eaten plants that contain them. You can also absorb this important nutrient by consuming plants, for example: Chlorella algae, walnuts, chia seeds, hemp oil or rapeseed oil, for example, are rich sources.
I personally supplement the nutrient with this omega-3 food supplement*.
And if you don't want to miss out on the taste, you can even buy them in the supermarket and online. vegan fish fingers*which I personally can't really taste any difference to classic fish sticks.
Tip: At "Why don't vegans eat fish?" you get even more motivation and inspiration.
5. Enjoy Plant-Based Cheese
We have already talked about milk. Without factory farming, there would of course be no (or significantly less) traditional cheese based on cow's milk or sheep's milk give. So if you want to stop them, you should also avoid cheese products.
Because cheese is so versatile and associated with so many meals and foods, experience shows that most people find it difficult to stop eating it altogether. I felt the same way at first. In the meantime, there are also alternatives for the different types of cheese.
By clicking on the respective link you will learn directly a few examples know:
6. Choose Plant-Based Honey Alternatives
Beekeeping is also factory farming and exploitation. The animals actually make honey for themselves. It is the food that the insects produce for themselves, which is extremely energy-sapping. A worker bee produces only about two teaspoons of honey in its almost five-week-long life and has to cover a distance equivalent to the distance from Munich to Moscow.5
It is often claimed that beekeeping helps the Species Extinction counteracts this. But the opposite is the case, as the bred bees are much more susceptible to diseases and can also transfer them to wild bees, whose pollination service is crucial for the survival of us all.
Fortunately, there are also plenty of alternatives. Maple syrup, Sugar beet syrup or Agave syrup for example. Another useful, herbal alternative is also this vegan honey*.
Tip: Why vegans don't eat honey, If you like, I can also explain this in more detail in the linked article.
7. Switch to Vegan Yogurt
What is true for milk and cheese is, of course, also true for milk-based yogurt: the dairy industry is Animal exploitation par excellence. Just do without it if you want to stop factory farming.
Fortunately, there are plenty of plant-based alternatives. There really are dozens of vegan yogurts. All you have to do is reach a little to the left or right on the supermarket shelf.
Take a look at Velivery.com also simply the various yogurt and quark alternatives* an.
8. Choose Cruelty-Free Natural Cosmetics
Choosing cruelty-free cosmetics is a strong statement against industrial animal farming and animal abuse. Such products, often through "Cruelty-Free", "without animal testing" or "Leaping Bunny" marked, do without Animal testing and support ethically responsible production.
By purchasing the corresponding natural cosmetics, you are supporting companies that take animal welfare seriously and make a decisive contribution to the development of a more responsible industry.
At the same time, these products are usually healthier for the skinas they contain fewer harmful chemicals.
A good place to start, for example, is the AvocadoStore*.
9. Avoid Fur and Wool Clothing
There was a time in our evolution when we used wool or the Animal fur needed to survive. Of course, those days are long gone - but we still happily wear fur and wool coats and jackets with fur collars. Of course, this does not work without factory farming.
You should therefore refrain from wearing such items of clothing or not buy any more of them. If you don't want to do without fur altogether (although this does preserve the social acceptance of fur items), then switch to faux fur. Recognize real fur for example, on the undercoat at the base of the hair, where the hair adheres to real leather.
Tip: Why vegans don't wear wool inside I will be happy to explain in the following article!
10. Be a Role Model and Raise Awareness
If you choose to stop paying for cruel factory farming, you are setting a moral example. Your values are aligned with your actions. You love animals - so you don't pay for someone else to do something to them for your needs.
When you Convince meat eaters:inside you should just set an example of how easy it is to be vegan - because it is! Especially if you have put yourself in the shoes of the animals in factory farming. My experience: Instead of firing off a firework display of facts, you can rather ask a question that makes you think for a long time.
Here are two examples of Effective questions:
- Why do you actually eat meat?
- Would you say that you love animals?
In my opinion, however, the recommendation of eye-opening Documentaries about factory farming and veganism, such as Cowspiracy* or Dominion.
11. Take Action for Animal Rights
Veganism is already part of your everyday life, so you no longer support factory farming anyway? Wow, that's great! Then you can now go one step further and become actively campaign for animal rights.
How exactly? Here are Three inspiring examples:
- Supported organizations: PROVIEH for example, has been fighting for animal husbandry that is appropriate to the species and appreciative since 1973. Such animal welfare organizations can always use financial or energetic support.
- Work on the mercy farm: You will gain a special appreciation for the lives of animals when you work at a sanctuary. There are animals there that have been rescued from intensive animal husbandry and are now allowed to enjoy their twilight years. For example, I sometimes help with the Lebenshof "Let the animals live e.V." near Berlin.
- Engage in educational outreach: Animal rights activists regularly hold so-called "cubes", where footage from slaughterhouses is shown in pedestrian zones. It's easy to get into conversation with other people and have the chance to convince them to live an animal-free life. You can find some inspiring Examples of successful vegan discussions and street interviews.
Tip: What if you could also take a professional stand against industrial factory farming? Have a look at the sustainable job portal from CareElite to see if there is something suitable.
End Factory Farming? Stop Supporting It.
Industrial factory farming is definitely one of the most the most superfluous things that are no longer up to date today. If only slaughterhouses had shop windows - then we would probably all immediately stop doing the things that support their existence.
But unfortunately this is not the case. And that is why a great deal of educational work is still needed to Decades of marketing work by the animal industries from people's minds.
With the knowledge from this article, you are now part of the solution and a role model for others. At some point, the social injustice of the Speciesism - So we keep some animals as pets and pet them, while we eat others.
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
Mahatma Gandhi (more at Animal Welfare Quotes)

People have lost their humanity. Animals are bestially exploited. This world is corrupt.
Hi Sigrid. This has been happening for centuries - but now the scale is such that we can no longer overlook the fact that factory farming is not in line with our values.
It's terrible that it had to come to this - but it's good that we're acting now and setting something in motion.
Many greetings
Christoph
