Can you actually use a natural hand cream make yourself? Every year again greet the dry hands. Especially in autumn and winter, when the weather slowly gets cooler, the hands quickly become dry and brittle. There's only one thing that helps: a nourishing hand cream. But just like other care products, conventional hand cream from a plastic tube often contains harmful substances that are bad for your skin.

That's why today I'm going to show you how you can make your own hand cream using healthy ingredients - naturally and plastic-free. Have fun trying it out!

Make your own hand cream with coconut oil

Coconut oil - make your own hand cream
Against brittle and dry hands helps coconut oil! In addition, coconut oil has an antibacterial effect. With the help of coconut oil you can for example also make your own deodorant. Together with the almond oil creates a wonderfully fragrant hand cream, completely without toxic additives.

For the homemade coconut oil hand cream you need:

And this is how you make the hand cream with coconut oil:

Melt the cocoa butter in a water bath together with the coconut oil. Add the almond oil and mix the mixture well together. Now wait until the mixture has cooled down. Then you can add a few drops of essential oil to give the hand cream a pleasant scent. Now fill the hand cream and let it harden in the refrigerator.
Important: Since this hand cream does not contain water, it is important that the cream is applied moist, otherwise it can not be properly absorbed into the skin.

Make your own hand cream with beeswax

Beeswax - make your own hand cream
If you want to make your own hand cream, you can also use beeswax. Beeswax has a soothing effect on the skin and moisturizes it.

For the hand cream with beeswax you need:

And this is how you make the beeswax hand cream:

Melt the beeswax in the container over a water bath and add the sunflower oil and almond oil. Then take the container off the heat and let the mixture cool down a bit. Now
you can add the shea butter and also let it melt. Now heat the herbal tea and the cocoa butter in a second container, also with the help of a water bath. Stir the mixture into the first container drop by drop. It is important that the mixture is stirred throughout. It is best to use a stirring rod for stirring, then you are on the safe side. After a while, the mixture should turn into a cream. Finally, you can add the essential oil to the cream.
Important: The two containers should have the same temperature.

Make your own hand cream with honey


Make your own hand cream is very easy with this recipe. Honey has a particularly good care effect and also smells wonderful.

For the honey hand cream you need:

  • 2 grams flowing honey
  • 20 milliliters of whole milk (or vegetable milk)
  • 20 milliliters grape seed oil
  • 10 milliliter Almond oil*
  • 5 drops essential oil

And this is how you make the hand cream with honey:

Whip the milk with a mixer for a few minutes until it becomes frothy. Stir in the grapeseed oil and the almond oil drop by drop. Stop stirring with the mixer and slowly pour the honey and essential oils to the mixture. Ready is the homemade hand cream, which is best kept in the refrigerator.

Store the homemade hand cream

You can store the hand cream in any clean container. For example, jam jars or baby jars are suitable for this purpose, you can use buy a jar but also here*. It is important that you sterilize the container properly with hot water beforehand. Before that, you can clean it with a little alcohol. The container should be completely dry before filling with the cream.

The homemade hand creams easily last a few weeks in the refrigerator.

  3. Hi Tabea, I recently made the coconut oil hand cream. However, it has become so hard on me after cooling that I can't even get it out of the jar. It is as firm as a bar of soap. Did I do something wrong, or is it always like that? Vg Christine

      At about 24°C, coconut oil becomes liquid. If it is a little colder in your home, it will remain hard. You can simply scrape it off with a spoon and put it into your hands. The warmth of your hands will then soften the hand cream.
