Home remedies for DIY oven cleaner

DIY oven cleaner do it yourself

To be able to make an oven cleaner ourselves, we must first consider which ingredients and things are basically suitable for cleaning an oven.

Suitable ingredients for DIY oven cleaner

First we need some ingredients, ideally suited for this purpose. Some of them, for example, we also use when we make ourselves a DIY glass cleaner do it yourself. For DIY oven cleaner, the following home remedies can be considered as ingredients:

  • Baking soda: Baking soda is a short form of sodium hydrogen carbonate. has a fungicidal and antibacterial effect. Depending on the grain size, it also has an abrasive effect, so that even stubborn residues are loosened in the oven. In the article about Soda applications you will learn the reasons why the home remedy is also called the Household miracle cure calls.
  • Table salt: Water-soluble salt is great for keeping fresh stains from getting hard. The best thing to do is to simply put table salt on it briefly and wipe it off.
  • Water: We use water as an ingredient in homemade oven cleaner to stretch the liquid to a reasonable ratio in combination with the other ingredients.
  • Organic dishwashing detergent: Especially to loosen stubborn stains in the oven, a dash of grease-dissolving organic dishwashing detergent sometimes doesn't hurt either.
  • Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar has a fat dissolving, disinfecting and antiseptic effect. It is even able to act against lime and rust. Apple cider vinegar you get in the Plastic free store.

More things to clean the oven

To clean the oven with these natural ingredients, it then basically does not need much. However, a few things can still make cleaning easier for you:

  • Fabric rag: An ordinary, damp cloth rag will help you get your oven sparkling clean again with homemade oven cleaner.
  • Container: Somehow, of course, the DIY oven cleaner must be kept together. For this, an old but reused dishwashing liquid bottle is advisable. But you can also use an ordinary Canning jar or grab a glass bottle with a swing top.

That's it - and we can get to the exact recipes! In the following I will give you three useful and mercilessly effective instructions for natural, homemade oven cleaners.

1. make oven cleaner yourself with baking soda & salt

DIY oven cleaner do it yourself

Apart from the fact that our miracle cure sodium hydrogen carbonate already has a great effect for dissolving the residues in the oven without additives, we can still help a bit. With table salt, for example. With the immediately following ingredients₁ and the corresponding instructions, you can easily turn the remedy into an effective Paste make - even in the sense of the plastic-free life.

Ingredients for this DIY oven cleaner

  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon table salt
  • 2 tablespoons water

Notice: You can also clean your oven with just baking soda. Simply sprinkle baking soda on the bottom of your oven, then mix it with about 0.1 liters of water in the oven and turn the oven on for about ten minutes at a low heat. Afterwards, you can simply wipe your oven with a damp cloth.

Now you know the ingredients, but how do we get our desired oven cleaner paste? Just follow the steps below:

  1. Put all 3 ingredients together in a container that is easy to stir.
  2. Stir in the liquid with a whisk until it takes on a paste-like consistency.
  3. Spread the paste obtained with a cloth in the oven. (make sure that heating rods do not come into contact with the paste).
  4. Leave the paste for about 30 minutes with the oven closed and turned on.
  5. Let the oven cool and wipe it out with a damp cloth.

That's all there is to it. With this homemade oven cleaner you have found a reliable and, in the best case, plastic-free replacement for the chemical cleaner. So you can always clean your oven plastic-free in the future.

And that's how easy you make this oven cleaner at home:

  • Get an empty detergent bottle and reuse it. Alternatively, you can use a glass bottle or a canning jar.
  • Now add all of the above ingredients to your container.
  • Then shake vigorously again and the DIY oven cleaner is ready.

Pour a generous amount of the cleaner onto your baking sheet and heat the closed oven. After the oven has been on for about 30 minutes, you can turn it off and let it cool. Then wipe it out again with a damp cloth. This should be very easy to do now.

  1. Hey Christoph,
how strong is this oven cleaner? Have really strong burnt in the oven and would like to know if I should rather just buy a chemical oven cleaner. Hope you can help me ;D
    Greeting
    Peter

    1. Moin Peter! There goes already a lot with away! Just try it first in the natural way 🙂
      Best regards
      Christoph

  2. Hello Christoph,
Thanks for the great recipes. I wrote them down right away and will test them now.
Unfortunately, the 3rd version does not say application. Do I "lubricate" the foam simply on the affected areas in the oven and then leave that to act? (If so, how thick?) Is the oven also turned on in this version or does it all happen when cold?
    Kind regards,
    Isa

    1. Hi Isa! Thanks for your feedback! Just "smear" it in the oven and let it sit for a few minutes. The compound doesn't have to be applied that thick at all. All when cold 🙂
      Many greetings
      Christoph

  3. Thank you Christoph, for a long time I try to live plastic free, but it succeeds only moderately, among other things because we also have some cats and their food is packaged in cans or plastic. Even at Pets Daily everything is in plastic.
Your tips for cleaning products are terrific. I do not like ivy in the garden and now it begins to make sense. He was also once suggested to me as a detergent, but unfortunately them recipe. Do you have something in stock there? LG from Gloria from Hamburg

    1. Hello Gloria, super that you give everything. With animal food it is indeed difficult!
Thanks for your feedback on the detergents. I have only used ivy for my dishwashing detergent so far, but not yet as a laundry detergent. I'll look and ggfs make a post about it 🙂
      Many greetings
      Christoph
