Rostock bans single-use plastic as early as 2019

Rostock. Construction and Environment Senator Holger Matthäus has now announced that from 2019, the city of Rostock at all events and festivals within the city of Plates, straws, cutlery and cups from Plastic prohibit. Especially the Rostockers are aware of the Plastic waste in the environment and, of course, a real thorn in the side on the beaches of the Baltic Sea. But the EU Parliament's decision to ban single-use plastic from 2021 is apparently not going fast enough for the people of Rostock.

The single-use plastic ban in Rostock

While a ban on single-use plastic has already been in place for over a year on beaches such as Warnemünde due to increasing wrapping, Rostock is now also enforcing the ban. This means that organizers of large festivals will be subject to stricter regulations in the future. The city of Rostock is thus a role model for other German cities when it comes to keeping the city clean one step ahead of people's consumption.
