Rostock. Holger Matthäus, Senator for Construction and the Environment, has now announced that from 2019, the city of Rostock will be Plates, straws, cutlery and cups from Plastic prohibit. Especially the Rostockers are aware of the Plastic waste in the environment and, of course, on the beaches of the Baltic Sea. But the EU Parliament's decision to ban single-use plastic from 2021 is apparently not going fast enough for the people of Rostock.
The single-use plastic ban in Rostock
While a ban on single-use plastic has been in place on beaches such as Warnemünde for over a year due to the increasing amount of plastic wrapping, Rostock is now also enforcing the ban. In future, organizers of large festivals will be subject to strict regulations. This makes the city of Rostock a role model for other German cities when it comes to keeping the city clean one step ahead of people's consumption.
