Austria wants to ban plastic bags by 2020

Vienna. Together, the ÖVP and FPÖ parties want to ban all plastic bags that are not fully biodegradable by 2020. According to Chancellor Sebastian Kurz of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), this is hoped to make an important contribution to counteracting the throwaway society that has emerged. This decision is expected to save around 7,000 tons of plastic bags per year.

Environment Minister Elisabeth Köstinger of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) added that there are enough alternatives that are already available in many stores. She therefore sees the ban on plastic bags as a clear conclusion. In addition, the Ministry of the Environment is also planning to ban Microplastics in cosmetic products.
